Fibreglass
Fibreglass is the main replacement
material for asbestos insulation. Fibreglass has an exposure
standard of 1 fibre per cubic centimetre air.
Fibreglass has a wide variety of
usages ranging from home insulation in the attic, to pipe and
boiler insulation in the plant. Problems with fibreglass can occur
when it is mechanically transformed. For instance, grinding can
produce a lot of airborne fibres that need to be controlled. In
cases like this, air monitoring for fibres is recommended to
determine the level of fibre generation.
