Indoor Air
Quality
Most people spend about 90% of their
time indoors which includes time spent at work, school, or home.
Relative to the outdoor environment, indoor air quality (IAQ) is
more important to people in regards to how it affects their health
and comfort.
In
Ontario, the Ministry of Environment regulates how much air
emissions can be discharged into the natural environment and the
Ministry of Labour regulates occupational exposure in the
workplace. In contrast, IAQ relates more to an occupant's comfort,
although health can be affected on a short-term basis. As such,
Ontario legislation does not cover IAQ, and reference is made to
the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning
Engineers (ASHRAE) Standards. The two current standards are ASHRAE
Standard 62-2001, "Ventilation for Acceptable Indoor Air Quality"
and ASHRAE Standard, "Thermal Environmental Conditions for Human
Occupancy."
IAQ parameters that typically affect
people include temperature, relative humidity, dust, fresh air,
drafts, air contaminants, and mold. Control of these parameters is
recommended to provide for good IAQ and maximum occupant comfort.
Our company has performed numerous
IAQ studies and we use sophisticated electronic equipment to
collect data. We can do basic to comprehensive surveys depending on
your needs. Services that GTA Environmental provides are as
