Respirator Fit Testing & Training

Wearing correct Respiratory Protection

Wearing correct Respiratory Protection

When employees are required to wear respirators, they must be fit tested to make sure the respirator fits properly and is the correct one for them. Although a respirator may seem to fit correctly, unless it is quantitatively fit tested with a TSI PortaCount, a correct fit is not guaranteed.

Respirators can leak around the respirator/face seal more than you think. Poorly fitting respirators can allow toxic materials like asbestos, lead, and silica to enter the employee’s respiratory system.

Employees also require training on the correct use, care, and maintenance of their respirators. We offer training for this as well, which usually proceeds the fit testing.

GTA Environmental offers a variety of fit testing options including SCBA, full-face respirators, half-mask respirators, and N95 respirators. We do the fit testing both onsite and offsite.

Respirator Fit Testing

It usually takes about 15 to 20 minutes to properly fit an employee for one type of respirator. We provide a computer printout of the fit test results. Also, we have a selection of respirator sizes to fit your employee, or provide your own.
