Health & Safety Awareness Training

Ontario’s  new Occupational Health and Safety Awareness Training regulation requires Ontario employers to ensure that workers and supervisors complete a basic occupational health and safety awareness training program.

For workers, the training should include the following:

  • Duties and rights of workers under the Act
  • Duties of employers and supervisors under the Act
  • Roles of health and safety representatives and joint health and safety committees
  • The roles of Ministry of Labour,  WSIB and other entities under the Act
  • Common workplace hazards
  • Requirements under Regulation 860,  WHMIS
  • Occupational illness including latency

For supervisors, the training should include the following:

  • Duties and rights of workers under the Act
  • Duties of employers and supervisors under the Act
  • Roles of health and safety representatives and joint health and safety committees
  • The roles of Ministry of Labour,  WSIB and other entities under the Act
  • How to recognize, assess and control workplace hazards and evaluate those controls
  • Sources of information on occupational health and safety
