Health & Safety Awareness Training
Ontario’s new Occupational Health and Safety Awareness Training regulation requires Ontario employers to ensure that workers and supervisors complete a basic occupational health and safety awareness training program.
For workers, the training should include the following:
- Duties and rights of workers under the Act
- Duties of employers and supervisors under the Act
- Roles of health and safety representatives and joint health and safety committees
- The roles of Ministry of Labour, WSIB and other entities under the Act
- Common workplace hazards
- Requirements under Regulation 860, WHMIS
- Occupational illness including latency
For supervisors, the training should include the following:
- Duties and rights of workers under the Act
- Duties of employers and supervisors under the Act
- Roles of health and safety representatives and joint health and safety committees
- The roles of Ministry of Labour, WSIB and other entities under the Act
- How to recognize, assess and control workplace hazards and evaluate those controls
- Sources of information on occupational health and safety
